Gotham: 10 Reasons Why It’s A Bust

4. The Choice Of Villains

One thing that the series does not have a shortage of is bad guys. Unfortunately for viewers, the scariest villain to date has been a person who ties victims to balloons and lets them float away. Having various factions of the mafia at war with each other adds a layer of drama to the narrative, but you don't tune in to see who the next mob Don will be. You want to see action and powerful villains doing extraordinary things. While Victor Zsasz is a psychopath, he's not even on the B-List of Batman's foes (although he owns one of the coolest scenes in the show where he clears out the police station simply by commanding it). The plot seems to be developing Edward Nygma (slowly) along the path to becoming the Riddler. In the comics, he is one of the few people in the world who is actually smarter than Bruce Wayne. If the show can begin to show Nygma's fall to the dark side and move him in the direction that will see him as the Riddler within the series, they will go a long way towards regaining credibility.
