Gotham: 12 Early Batman Moments That Must Be Adapted

9. Bruce Wayne€™s Training

Bruce Wayne Training Becoming Batman isn€™t something that happens overnight - it takes years of training and preparation before putting on the cape and cowl, and if the show is serious about exploring the early years of Batman€™s development, they€™ll need to touch on how Bruce achieved near-physical perfection. This show€™s Alfred is described as a €œtough-as-nails ex-marine,€ so it would make sense if he began teaching Bruce the basics of combat. However, after turning 18, Bruce can begin his journey around the world learning gymnastics, martial arts, escape artistry and becoming a master of disguise. To keep things fresh, the show should make sure all of Bruce€™s instructors are original characters: as good as it would be to see Ra€™s al Ghul appear, we don€™t need to retread on Batman Begins and have Bruce training with the League of Assassins/Shadows. Of course, physical prowess isn€™t Batman€™s only defining trait; he also has keen mental abilities that earned him the title World€™s Greatest Detective, and while there have been many great adaptations of Batman, many tend to skip over Bruce€™s deductive talents. The show could break from the mold and show us how he became one of the keenest analytical minds of all time, which could start while he€™s still a boy. Naturally intelligent, he€™ll fast-track his scholastic career towards becoming a student at Gotham University; mastering mathematics, the sciences and other topics, Bruce can then use his journey around the world to develop his mind for engaging criminals. This would be a great opportunity to introduce Henri Ducard - and not the Liam Neeson in disguise figure - the Ducard from the comics who was a French detective who taught Bruce detective work and man-hunting. Bruce€™s training would allow for the Gotham story to split into two narratives: continuing to follow Gordon in Gotham City and following Bruce around the world. It could last for several seasons, though clearly Bruce would need to come back to Gotham by the end of the penultimate season. We€™ll need that last season to set up the final arc of Bruce becoming Batman.
