Gotham: 12 Early Batman Moments That Must Be Adapted

8. James Gordon Becomes Commissioner

Modern portrayals of Gordon show him as a sergeant or lieutenant when he first meets Batman, and then as one of the few good cops in Gotham City, he starts working with this masked man to combat crime and corruption both on the streets and within law enforcement. He may be skeptical and somewhat disapproving of Batman€™s methods, but he recognizes the necessity of working with him, and as time passes, the two of them develop a friendship, and their partnership becomes one of the most well-known in all of comic book history. We€™ve learned that Gordon will be an €œidealistic rookie detective€ who€™s only worked in Gotham City for several weeks at the start of the show. As the main character of Gotham, we€™ll watch him develop from a naive detective to one who learns to survive in this tainted and corrupt city. It makes sense that by the end of the series, Gordon will have achieved the rank of commissioner and begin cleaning up the police department, which may be difficult, but Gordon€™s enough of an idealist to take on that challenge. He grew up romanticizing the city, and he€™ll do whatever it takes to restore its purity. Not only that, but being commissioner will allow him to pool more resources towards helping Batman when he arrives on the scene, and it makes it a lot easier installing the Bat-Signal on the roof of the GCPD.
