Gotham Season 5: 4 Ups & 0 Downs From Penguin, Our Hero
Ups...
4. The New & Improved Selina Kyle
There's little doubt that Selina Kyle is one of Gotham's greatest offerings. The character is one of the only on the Fox series that has, more or less, remained true to her comic book counterpart, and Camren Bicondova has been absolutely superb in her portrayal of the future Catwoman.
With Gotham in its final season, it's only fair that Selina would be one of the few characters to take centre stage, and that's exactly what happens in Penguin, Our Hero. Following her transformation into Catwoman in the previous episode, Selina is not only more cat-like than she was previously, but she also possesses a new-found confidence. Bicondova is so good as portraying the badder side of Selina, and with her more sassier, villainous elements coming to the forefront, the actress has plenty of great material to work with.
There have always been comparisons between Gotham's iteration of the character and Michelle Pfeiffer's iconic portrayal from Batman Returns, but it was nice to see the Fox series honour a different Catwoman during this episode, as the gloves that Selina wears are reminiscent of those worn by the three actresses who portrayed Catwoman in the '60s Batman TV series.
