20 TV Shows That Failed To Stick The Landing

9. The Blacklist

The Blacklist James Spader
NBC

By the time of its final season, The Blacklist had run out of gas.

Anchored by James Spader's commanding portrayal of criminal mastermind Raymond Reddington, the drama followed an exciting procedural format as its leading man chased down fugitives and fellow criminals with the aid of the FBI.

It was seriously good fun in its early days, but as it trudged along it struggled to keep up the tension. From around season six or seven, the mysteries surrounding Red became more tiresome and repetitive than engaging, and it seemed the writers were at a loss about where everyone was supposed to end up.

By the time of the final season, The Blacklist was limping along, and in an attempt to give it a definitive ending they killed Red at the horns of a bull (because reasons), and let those in his orbit move on from him without any fuss. It was a lazy goodbye for a series always so smart, and Red deserved better.
