The Heartstopper favourite is set to star alongside David Tennant and Catherine Tate!
RTD's method of announcing the latest Doctor Who news with emojis has undoubtedly become a trend on Instagram pages. We've had two hearts plus a blue box for Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor announcement and two hearts plus a blue diamond for David Tennant and Catherine Tate's return.
Now, with a rose and another blue diamond, we can confirm that Yasmin Finney is set to join the great Whoniverse! Yasmin has recently risen to fame in the LGBTQ+ Netflix show Heartstopper, playing Elle Argent in the small screen adaptation of Alice Oseman's captivating graphic novel series.
Russell T Davies, the returning Doctor Who showrunner, responded to Finney's announcement via Instagram, stating: "Welcome to the Whoniverse, Yasmin Finney! The star of the wonderful Heartstopper @netflixuk joins us for the 60th anniversary shoot, playing… Rose! Another Rose? But how? Who? Why? Where? What, what, what?!"
With Davies' statement, there have certainly been numerous fan theories that have surfaced online. Some are speculating that perhaps Yasmin is playing an alternate version of Rose Tyler, the 9th and 10th Doctor's companion in 2005 and 2006. While others believe the Manchester-born actress could well be playing the daughter of widely beloved companion Donna Noble. Only time will tell...
There's no doubt that excitement for the 60th anniversary special is building; let's see if there are any more brilliant announcements still to come.
