How I Met Your Mother: 10 Worst Things Lily Ever Did

It’s Christmas time in New York City and Marshall and Lily are back together with the gang fully reunited. Nothing can ruin this magical time. Well, except maybe for an old answering machine which literally brings back horrible memories.

Ted and Lily are cleaning and decorating the apartment whilst Marshall is at work, waiting in great anticipation for their place to be revamped with festivities. Lily discovers an old answering machine which has messages dating back from when she was in San Francisco (we’ll get there later). One of them includes Ted telling Marshall to get over Lily because she is a Grinch.

Since Ted is telling this story to his children, it’s fairly obvious Grinch is a euphemism for a much ruder curse word. Lily is outraged from being called this name and doesn’t see it from Ted’s perspective that he was just trying to be a good friend to Marshall. As he didn’t initially apologise, Lily secretly takes all the decorations to her tiny apartment out of spite of being called a Grinch.

This leaves Ted stressed out and busy because he knows Marshall is counting on a great Christmas Eve. After trying to apologise, Lily doesn’t accept because she doesn’t believe he’s genuine. And to add insult to injury, she phones Ted’s mother to tell her about his rude language.
