6. When She Intervened In Ted's Love Life
In Season 4, Lily reveals that she always envisions what the gang will be like when they’re elderly and playing card games together on the front porch of her future house, and tests Ted’s girlfriends to see whether or not she can imagine them there or not.
It sounds fairly innocent and actually quite sweet until we learn that if she doesn’t approve of his relationships, she’ll happily manipulate them in order to break the two up.
Lily has been doing it for years, including his relationship with Robin who originally didn’t pass the “Front Porch Test”. She defends her actions by saying it’s for Ted’s own good when in actuality, it crosses so many boundaries and is completely self-centred.
Ted may not have always dated the best women (and it’s agreed that his at-the-time girlfriend Karen was awful), but it still didn’t give Lily any right to sabotage his personal life like that when as an adult, he should be able to make such decisions for himself.
