Frances Conroy was responsible for the genuine corker of a character that was Loretta Stinson. The father to Barney and James, she was promiscuous and constantly told lies to avoid upsetting her children, including shying away from disclosing who their real fathers were, although she eventually did.

Conroy has kept herself quite busy since the show's conclusion, landing starring roles as Nathalie Raven in 2017's The Mist, Dawn in a quarter of the episodes of Casual, and about half of American Horror Story. A role she maintains to this day, she's gone by the aliases of Myrtle Snow, Gloria Mott, Moira O'Hara, Shachath, Bebe Babbitt, Mama Polk, Olga Dubrovski, and an unnamed patient.

Aside from a prominent role in 2019's Joker film as Penny Fleck, less regular roles saw Frances appear in shows such as The Real O'Neals as Grandma Agnes, Young Sheldon as Dr. Flora Douglas, and a few episodes of Arrested Development as Lottie Dottie Da.

The Power Of The Dog, a 2021 drama featuring Frances that sees a pair of brothers pitted against each other following one of them getting married, is expected for a 2021 release. It's currently in post-production at the time of writing.
