Marshall and Lily have continuously been the strongest couple in the show, only facing one major setback when Lily wanted to go to art school and they broke up for a time. Despite that, their relationship is one of the pillars on which this show is built, so it’s a real shame that their wedding reception wasn’t a better episode.
While the one which came before it was near-perfect, this episode mainly consisted of the bride and groom being unable to enjoy the festivities with how many people they had to talk too, thus leading to a comedic situation in which they were both starving and Lily was very drunk.
The episode thus falls mainly on Ted and Robin, which further makes this wedding a let-down, as we go through many guesses on the secret they’re hiding before it’s revealed that they’ve broken up – an upsetting moment for any fans who’d been rooting for them.
