It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: The Gang's Most Outrageous Exploits From Each Season
7. Dennis and Dee Go On Welfare (Season 2)
Season 2 introduces Frank Reynolds, originally as Dennis and Dees father. In this episode, Frank begins to take his most active role yet in the affairs of the Gang, having purchased Paddys in some backdoor shenanigans the previous episode. Frustrated at Franks bossiness, Dennis and Dee quit and decide to pursue their dreams. First, though, they go on welfare. Just to help them out during the transition. The episode is full of gags centering on the Gangs respective highs and lows. Dennis and Dee spend the episode listening to Biz Markie on porch steps, awkwardly buying crack in the ghetto, and suffering from withdrawal. Meanwhile Frank abuses a Work for Welfare program to get government-subsidized staff for the bar. Charlie and Mac have fun on Franks dime, driving past crack addicts Dennis and Dee in a party limo filled with hookers. True to Sunny form, every character gets to show off what a sleaze they are, but this episode has the added foil of Tony and Maria. The two genuinely sympathetic characters never can seem to get ahead despite working hard all their lives and abstaining from alcohol. Their story depresses Frank, who fires them for being a bummer. In the end, Frank instead promotes Charlie as a reward for stealing his money.
