It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: The Gang's Most Outrageous Exploits From Each Season
6. The Gang Gets Analyzed (Season 8)
Starting with season 8, it becomes common for Sunny episodes to be like mini movies, built around specific themes and concepts. Theres a spoof on movies like Cruel Intentions, a horror-themed wedding episode, a Seinfeld-inspired episode that takes place entirely in a restaurant, and this episode, which takes place in a therapists office. Each member of the Gang gets their own turn on the couch to air their innermost complexities, neuroses and psychopathic tendencies. Frank initially refuses to open up, yet he quickly reduces himself to tears with almost no provocation. Mac cant stop chewing on a pen. Charlie has the most promising breakthrough until he pulls a dead pigeon out of his pocket. Dee unveils her chronic lying and desperate need for approval. And Dennis talks of throwing the executioner's switch and reveals hes kept psychological dossiers on the Gang for years, starting his file on twin sister Dee with crayon in the second grade. In addition to exploring the darkest recesses of the Gangs disturbed minds, the episode features a brilliant turn by guest actress Kerry Kinney. Her deadpan therapist serves as the perfect foil for everyone else. As a bonus, there is a hilarious outtake from this episode in which Kinney reminisces with Charlie Day about their time on Reno 911.
