Jerry Seinfeld: 23 Hours To Kill Review - 6 Ups & 3 Downs

1. Down - Jerry's Physicality Isn't Great

When a joke doesn't pack a big punch, Seinfeld relies on his voice and mannerisms to carry himself through to a couple of chuckles. The exaggerated motions aren't his strong suit. Comedians can make careers out of physicality - like Jim Carrey - but it's not what draws people to listen to Seinfeld.

Seinfeld has that iconic panicky tone in his voice, but it's used in odd moments. Like when he knows the joke isn't particularly good, he raises his voice in hopes that the suddenness will result in laughter.

Even in his gay French king joke, Seinfeld draws the motion out because the initial reaction wasn't enough. When the bit doesn't land and the comedian continues with the physicality to squeeze out every last laugh, it comes off as trying too hard.

This special isn't for newcomers. Those that like the Seinfeld brand will enjoy themselves, but even then it doesn't always work since some of the material is old. For a man that has always been on top, Jerry Seinfeld's latest special lands squarely in the middle with little splashes to be made.
