Jerry Seinfeld: 23 Hours To Kill Review - 6 Ups & 3 Downs

2. Down - The Recycled Material

Those familiar with Seinfeld's standup will recognize that there are some old jokes in here.

People understand that a comedian doesn't have different material for every set they do night in and night out, but it's reasonable to expect that a special will be filled on the new jokes the comedian has been working on currently.

And it's not like someone has to have seen Seinfeld in person to know that it's similar material. He has continued to perform sets on late night shows ever since his debut for Johnny Carson, so fans of Seinfeld will know about his jokes about scrolling through phones like a gay French king and paying the bill at restaurants. In fact, referring to paying the check as the story of the bill goes as far back as his standup in 1989. It was also one of the intros to an episode of Seinfeld.

These aren't bad jokes, but needing to put them in a special to fill time and add more jokes is disappointing. A new special should create buzz and show the world that this aging comic has still got it. Instead, it comes off as a successful comedian coasting through.
