Last Night's TV: WILFRED - Season Finale

Possibly the most barking mad thing I’ve seen on TV in a while, but at least it’s different to all the other drivel. Which is fine by me.

Last night I was having a browse through some of the channels on my telebox and stumbled across Wilfred on BBC Three. The 20 minute long comedy was the sixth of 6 episodes in the series and so I've pretty much missed it, but may have a look on the tinterweb for the other 5. Wilfred centres around Ryan (Elijah Wood) who is in love with his neighbour Jenna (Fiona Gubelmann), but spends most of his time taking orders from and talking to her dog Wilfred (Jason Gann). The thing is Wilfred isn€™t an ordinary dog to Ryan. In fact Ryan sees Wilfred as a fully-grown man in a dog€™s outfit, despite no one else doing so. I€™m not entirely sure why, but it does mean that whilst other people treat Wilfred like a dog and whack him on the nose with newspapers etc, Ryan sits drinking beer with Wilfred. I€™m not a huge fan of Elijah Wood. In fact I hate his face and every possible place on earth where it may pop up. And the idea of this show sounds stupid. The way in which it is shot and colour graded makes it looks cheap and nasty. The story wasn€™t very good either. And the dialogue was poor at times. But€ there were some genuinely hilarious moments of comedy. Maybe it€™s just my sense of humour, but watching a fully-grown man in a dog costume trying to mount a teddy bear as if he were a dopy, horny dog had me laughing. The good gags weren€™t that regular, but they were pretty good. Possibly the most barking mad thing I€™ve seen on TV in a while, but at least it€™s different to all the other drivel. Which is fine by me.
