Luke Cage Season 2: What The Ending Means For The Netflix Marvel Universe

Even though Mariah Stokes stole the show when it came to villainy, Mustafa Shakir's John McIver, AKA Bushmaster, was certainly a compelling antagonist in his own right.

Luke Cage's Jamaican foe provided a suitable challenge for the bulletproof man, besting him in combat twice in the titular hero's own show, while McIver may have been enhanced by the Nightshade plant and used a powder to paralyse Luke, his un-enhanced fighting ability on its own is something to behold. His skill in fighting is something lifted straight from the comics, with Bushmaster originally appearing in Iron Fist as a brilliant street fighter and mob boss.

However, the continued use of Nightshade has deteriorated both McIver's mind and body leaving him in a poor state by the end of the season. Yet, Shakir himself has hinted at the character's possible return in the future, something which would be very interesting to see, particularly if he returns as an ally of Luke's, rather than an adversary.
