MacGyver Season 3: 6 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Bravo Lead + Loyalty + Friendship'

1. MacGyver Is Back At The Phoenix (With A Good Reason)

Mac has had it pretty rough over the past couple of months, and his troubles culminated with him quitting his job at the Phoenix. As noted here, this was a bold move for the writers, and it was particularly admirable that they didn't revert this decision in the third season premiere, but rather had their protagonist stick to his guns. After everything he endured during the second season, it would've been unbelievable for Mac to return so soon, regardless of how much he missed his friends. However, using one of said friends' death as a catalyst for his return is pretty genius.

The decision to kill off Jill has been controversial, and considering the character hadn't been fully developed, it's easy to see why this is, but the writing on the show is strong enough to forgive this. It would take something pretty big to get Mac back to work, and this is the perfect way to do it. Fans might not like it, but Jill's death ultimately proves to be a smart story move.
