MacGyver Season 3: 6 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Bravo Lead + Loyalty + Friendship'
2. The Conflict Resolution
Speaking of conflict, there has been plenty of it between Mac and Jack this season so far. While understanding his reasons for doing so, Jack was upset at Mac's decision to quit his job. The fact that they subsequently fell out of contact while Mac was in Nigeria only furthered this conflict, and is ultimately the reason Jack initially doesn't include Mac in the operation to retrieve Worthy.
However, in typical Mac and Jack fashion, the pair are able to reconcile their differences rather quickly, but the writers should still be commended for their decision to highlight that even the best of friends can go through rough patches. What's more, Mac might be able to fix every problem in the world, but the past two episodes have demonstrated that, without his buddy, he simply doesn't function as well.
One could argue that Mac's integration into Jack's Delta unit was a literal representation of how the character saw his place in the world after discovering Oversight to be his dad. At the beginning of the episode, he feels like an outsider, operating outside of his comfort zone, but by the end, he's part of the team.
