Marvel's Jessica Jones Season 2 Review: 6 Ups And 4 Downs
AKA Not As Good As Season 1.
Welcome back, Jessica.
It's been two-and-a-half years since the first season of Marvel's Jessica Jones, AKA The Best Netflix Marvel Season Yet, hit the streaming service harder than Jessica hits the bottle. A dark, edgy, noir-tinged story of superpowers mixed with abuse, it (like Daredevil before) elevated what the genre could do on TV and what it could be about.
Since November 2015 the Netflix Marvel Universe has expanded, and Jessica herself did return to play a wonderfully snarky, eye-rolling part in the ultimately underwhelming The Defenders last year, but it's a welcome sight to see her back in a solo series. Despite everything building to that team-up, these heroes have had such development - and a lack of people skills - that they work better alone, or at most in a pair.
The first season ended with Jessica murdering Kilgrave and putting herself into the spotlight, and she still has to deal with the aftermath of that decision this year, while also digging deeper into her past and the mysteries of IGH. It amounts to another engaging, entertaining season, albeit one that, like its titular hero, is difficult and has some real flaws.
