4. What The Hell Is Alvarez Up To Now?
Marcus Alvarez has played a prominent part in the first season of Mayans MC; perhaps even more so than he did in Sons of Anarchy. The MC’s president regularly appears throughout the season, spending a lot of time with the Santo Padre charter.
Those who remember Alvarez from Sons of Anarchy will know that he shouldn’t be trusted. In that show, his actions were always seemingly in the interest of his own club, but this time around, it’s clear that his true loyalty lies only with himself.
During Season One, we discover that Marcus knows Miguel Galindo well and that he was a close friend of Miguel’s father. In the final episode, after an off-screen discussion, Marcus turns in his cut and leaves the Mayans in order to work directly for the cartel.
Marcus looks primed to replace the recently decapitated Devante as Miguel’s closest advisor. This will surely soon lead to friction between the club and the cartel, given their relationship is already formed by needs rather than wants. Considering how late in the season this decision was made, it’s certainly a story development we should be looking out for in September when we pick up for Season Two.
