9. And That, Kids, Was...
Its the line weve all been waiting to hear for nine years now. Early on in production going to come when Ted first locked eyes with Victoria, then once he met Stella, the shows continuous success led to an ever growing scope and allowed it to build properly towards the the titular meeting and the utterance of that concluding phrase. Its a small moment in Last Forever, coming after the fateful meeting but before that emotional twist, but when Ted finally says how I met your mother for the last time (directly to the audience and all), the sense of finality finally comes rushing in.
8. Robin Confronts Lily
After her and Barney divorce, even though everyone reassures themselves otherwise, Robin finds herself slowly pushed out of the group, leading to the awkward reunion with Marshall mentioned earlier. When leaving she bumps into Lily and busts open the myth that their group still exists. How I Met Your Mother was a show always very free for development, switching relationships up and actually developing characters, but we've never seen such distance between the gang before. Kudos here goes to Alyson Hannigan; even though she had a baby bump and unflattering whale costume on, she still managed to pull off some of the episodes most emotional moments.
