11. The Final Photo
The opening credits of the show, a compilation of photographs Lilys taken of the gang, may feel a tad dated given how much the characters have changed, but with the finales recollective spin still feels relevant. Although there was never much of a focus put on photos across the series (beyond Barneys inability to take a bad one), there was still time for the opening to get a nod at the end. At Ted and Tracys wedding the bride excitingly takes a photo of the original five, which, as it's presented in the same screen ratio, calls back to the opening, highlighting more so how much has changed since those early days.
10. Robin And Barney Divorce
Their wedding has been the shows endgame since the very start of Season 6, so for Robin and Barney to not work out could easily have been a crushing disappointment for fans. And on one level it was. Theyve both changed each other so much that theres naturally the regret that they didnt make it work in the long run. But in other ways its really emblematic of what HIMYM has attempted to show in its final season; love isnt this simple force that automatically produces a cookie-cutter happy ever after.
