How I Met Your Mother: 25 Best Moments From The Finale

7. That's Why Ted's Telling The Story

A constant derision by those who gave up on the show after the first couple of years is just how long Ted€™s taking to tell the story of how he and Tracy met. The show has never shied away from mocking this, with other couples giving one-line explanations to their offsprings in contrast, but we never expected the extreme length of the story to become a plot point in itself. Yet that's exactly what they did. When the notion of the Mother dying became a distinct possibility a few weeks ago it was assumed this story was Ted€™s coping mechanism, but the truth was something a lot more show-spanning; as Penny states, it was really his attempt to convince his kids (and himself) he€™s ready to date Robin. Didn't see that coming.

6. Ted First Sees The Mother

Last week€™s episode, At The End of The Aisle, did a great job of rounding off the major stories of Season 9 (the locket, Barney and Robin€™s nerves, Lily and Marshall€™s argument), leaving Last Forever ample time to deal with the series goal. But we don€™t think anyone expected us to be thrown into things so quickly. Recreating a moment from Band Or DJ, the finale has Ted first clock the Mother even before the opening titles begin. At this point having given up on both love and New York, seeing Ted edge closer to his destiny is incredibly exciting.
