How I Met Your Mother: 25 Best Moments From The Finale

13. Ted Stays In New York Out Of Love

It was one of the episodes bigger laughs for us when Marshall and Lily discover Ted casually sitting in the booth, but looking back on it the scene does more than that, signalling a new stage in the character's journey. Throughout all the emotional goodbyes, we knew Ted was never going to make it to Chicago. The reason why was pretty obvious, but also quite poigniant; hearkening back to False Positive, where the group doubles back on new life directions to Ted's irritation, meeting Tracy at the Farhampton station reignites that old Mosby-spark and compels him to stick around.

12. Judge Fudge/Fudge Supreme

Come again for Big Fudge. After Season 9 was teasingly uncertain about Marshall and Lily's future, it was gratifying to see they end up with the best of both worlds; after a stint in Rome they return to New York for Marshall to climb up the legal ladder. First becoming a Judge (the role that almost destroyed his marriage previously), he later applies for the State Supreme Court. But what makes this satisfying development (Marshall€™s ascent to be a lawyer is one of the longest running subplots) legendary is that in all this he doesn€™t lose his sense of humour, welcoming legal twists on his self-anointed nickname, Big Fudge (which you imagine became group catchphrases as prevalent as suit up).
