Mr. Robot: 10 Best Episodes

1. 407 Proxy Authentication Required

Although Mr. Robot has been laden with brilliant episodes throughout all four seasons, it's difficult to see how any of them could top Proxy Authentication Required. It literally had everything you could want in a Mr Robot episode, including high stakes, truth reveals and a unique tone. Even with all of that, this particular episode had a rawness about it that sets it apart from the others.

Part of that is down to the intimate setting of the episode. Taking place in Eliiot's psychiatrist's apartment, the episode solely focuses on Elliot, Fernando and his goons and Elliot's psychiatrist Krista whom Fernando had taken hostage. As a way of trying to break Elliot's spirit so he can use his hacking expertise to try and take over New York, Fernando forces Krista to ask Elliot questions about his hazy memories.

Not only does this lead to us finding out that Mr. Robot has been a part of Elliot since he was a child, we also find out that Mr. Robot was created as a trigger to help him deal with his sexually abusive father in real life.

Rami Malek does a fantastic job of gradually showing how distraught Elliot is as he slowly begins to remember why jumped out of the window. However, Elliot Villar, who plays Fernando, also needs credit for his performance. He manages to drift between Fernando's rage, arrogance and empathy seamlessly and it's captivating to watch.

Although the two-part finale was a really dark and disturbing ride into Elliot's brain, it still ended somewhat happily. Where 407 Proxy Authentication Required sets itself apart is that it's a devastating, yet insightful experience for Elliot and the viewers.
