Obi-Wan Kenobi Part IV Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs
7. LOTS Of Convenient Storytelling
Perhaps the biggest flaw weighing Part IV down comes from how much it relies on convenient storytelling and a distinct lack of stakes.
Take the very first scene, which brings Obi-Wan to a hidden base used by the Path without any real explanation of how Tala got him there. Or consider the final act, where Obi-Wan manages to walk through the Inquisitor fortress with Leia walking beside him, under his cloak and yet somehow unseen until they're free.
Also, the episode's introduction of the other Path members leads to a handful of clunky dues ex machina twists, particularly in the final scene where they fly into the danger zone to save Obi-Wan and Tala just before they're about to bite the dust.
Ultimately, the entire episode aims for some shock twists, but the writing comes off as lazy and easy. Because of this, much of Part IV lacks the tension of previous episodes, and - much like the painfully slow foot-chase in the premiere - laughably poor, with little in the way of any real danger.
