Only Fools And Horses: Ranking All The Main Characters From Worst To Best
1. Del Boy Trotter
Del Boy is Only Fools and Horses. More than that, Del Boy is part of the fabric of British society. Around the world, the saying ‘lovely jubbly’ is synonymous with British culture, and it confirms the impact of the greatest character from Only Fools and Horses.
From the humble beginnings of selling knock-off gear from a suitcase with a ‘fake-it-til-you-make-it’ attitude to becoming a millionaire by chance to losing the money due to poor business decisions to again having enough to finally start a legitimate business, Del Boy’s tenacity and lust for life drives the entire series from its first episode to its very last.
Del's finest moment takes place during the final episode of the 1996 Christmas trilogy though. After Rodney and Cassandra had lost their baby in the previous episode, the younger Trotter avoids talking about it and pretends everything is okay. When in a lift together, Del secretly shuts off the power and pretends to have claustrophobia, becoming angry at Rodney claiming that he doesn’t know what it feels like to be scared.
The younger brother becomes angry and confesses how fearful he has been for his marriage and his wife’s wellbeing since they had lost their firstborn. Del Boy quickly comforts his brother in the sincerest moment of the show and reassures him that everything will be okay if the family sticks together. This ploy in order to support his family encapsulates every motivation of Del Boy and proves that beyond being rich, he just wants a happy family.
