Although today Rose feels comfortable in her own skin, describing herself as gender fluid, things were not always as simple for her. As a child, she experienced confusion and went through a period feeling that she was actually a boy, doing her utmost to achieve that.

She tackled the topic head on in the short film Break Free, which chronicles the transformation of a very feminine girl into an aggressive young man. She describes the video as autobiographical and therapeutic, putting it online in the hope of reaching some of the people who were experiencing similar feelings. Instead, it went viral overnight, reaching over 5 million.

Today, Rose still identifies more strongly with her male side and has already told fans not to expect a frilly dress on her wedding day. But the actress adds that nowadays she is lucky enough to have accepted herself the way she is, and doesn't feel uncomfortable with certain aspects of her body in the way she did as a young girl.
