Preacher Season 3: 3 Ups & 1 Down From 'Les Enfants Du Sang'
Downs...
1. Madame Marie, Here We Go Again
Preacher was so close to perfect this week, but there was just one thing that dragged it down. Just when we thought there AMC series was finally moving on, the final moments of the episode bring us right back to where we were at at the beginning of Season 3, resetting the status quo for the worse. After robbing Madame Boyd of her souls, Jesse and Tulip are able to revive Marie L'Angelle. The fact that L'Angelle's life is tied to Tulip's is a great source of conflict, but problems are now arising because of this narrative decision. Instead of showing gratitude for being saved from death, the villainous old biddy decides to punish her grandson and his girlfriend. Yawn. L'Angelle has Jody and TC tie up Tulip (again). Jesse tries to reason with his grandma, but instead receives a blow to the head.
Jesse later promises to pay back his debt to her - whatever it takes. Haven't we heard this song before? Just like that, the concluding moments undo the progress that this episode has made. It's a shame, because had this not come to pass, then there would've been nothing to complain about this week, as Les Enfants du Sang was the strongest outing this season has had to offer thus far. Let's hope this storyline takes a backseat in future episodes, so that we can instead focus on Cassidy's superior arc.
