3. The God Twist

Let's be real: Tulip was never going to die. Not yet, anyway.

But killing the character off for a few episodes gave the writers a reason for Jesse to be desperate enough to abandon his search for God and to return to the home he hated.

But it appears that abandoning the search for God actually helped the preacher in the long run because, as Tulip made the decision to leave purgatory and return to the land of the living, she was momentarily visited by God himself (complete in the dog outfit we saw in the second season). The all-seeing leader was about to give Tulip a very special mission when she was returned to her body.

However, it wasn't made clear if Tulip returned to her body too soon, or if the show deliberately kept what she'd learned from us. Either way, it was a pretty clever twist, and one that will have severe ramifications on the hunt for God moving forward.

That is, if Jesse ever manages to get away from his crazy grandma.
