Ranking Every Episode From Love, Death And Robots
11. Shape-Shifters
An interesting concept that allowed for some visceral action scenes, Shape-Shifters follows two marines in Afghanistan who have the ability to shape-shift into werewolf type creatures and be used in warfare. After it is discovered that the opposing side has a shape-shifter of their own, the short becomes a gorgeously animated violent action film.
The premise of shape-shifters being used in the military is clever and it is handled with a surprising amount of maturity and attention to detail. This is not a surrealist telling of this story, the shape-shifters are discriminated against by their peers and the respect paid to the fallen is sensitively handled. In short, the world building is very well established and adds to the piece.
The main event though is the fight scenes which are suitably brutal and intense and feature some very memorable visuals. It may not be the most amazing animation or storytelling on this list, but it is all strong material.
