25. Mrs Fletcher
A starring role for Kathryn Hahn is always a good thing, and she excels in this 2019 comedy. She’s frequently cast in broad and brash antagonistic roles, but she’s pure charm in this coming of age story.
Hahn takes the title role, a single mother in a difficult and unfulfilling job who’s been living exclusively for other people for the majority of her adult life. She works in an assisted living facility and has little in the way of a personal life until she reconnects with her own desires, often by way of pornography.
It’s a bold and explicit series, but one that doesn’t shy away from discussing desire in an honest manner - it’s never cheap or titillating, just straightforward in its portrayal of the wants and needs of an adult woman, not something depicted altogether too often on TV.
The side plots, involving Eve Fletcher’s son and those in his orbit, never feel as fleshed out as the Hahn material, but this is worth watching for her performance and character alone.
