1. Season 5 Episode 5 - Housewarming
In the fifth episode of Season 5, Patrick has a high school slumber get-together to serve as a housewarming party. Since David isn't asked to help, he expects (and hopes) it to be a total disaster. Meanwhile, Johnny and Moira agree to look after Roland's baby despite the fact they've never changed a diaper.
Even though Housewarming is one of the most beloved episodes, the storyline shouldn't work. The "awkward party games" shtick has been done to death. The "I don't know how to look after a baby" set-up is derivative.
But thanks to the tight script, amazing chemistry, and masterclass comedy, Housewarming has a plethora of memorable moments. Watching Ted being drunk, Alexis kissing Patrick, or Moira using a binder to figure out how to look after a child is only a sample of the episode's hilarity. One of the best lines is when Moira says she misses the days when she could ask her maid to "rush home from her daughter's wedding" to change a diaper. This episode accomplishes the impossible by landing every joke, making the episode hilarious from start to finish.
