2. Aimee's Sexual Assault On The Bus
When a show tries to tackle issues surrounding gender and sexuality, it's not a question of if they will address sexual assault, but rather, when. As such, it was obvious that this show was going to explore the issue and that it certainly did.
During season two, Aimee got onto a public bus, only for a man to masturbate on her leg. It was a disgusting moment but made worse by the fact that Aimee was so traumatised that she couldn't get on a bus afterwards without panicking.
There are plenty of elements that brought this story together, but Aimee herself is the glue. A sexual assault storyline could have, unfortunately, happened to any of the girls in Sex Education, but seeing the always bright, bubbly and optimistic Aimee suffering added more salt to the wound.
Thankfully, this storyline boasts one of the best endings in the show, as the girls of Moordale talk about their experiences with sexual assault and band together to help Aimee ride the bus again. This was exactly the kind of girl power climax the storyline needed, and it delivered.
