Sherlock: 10 Biggest Plot Twists
1. Moriarty Shoots Himself – The Reichenbach Fall
Andrew Scott’s Moriarty was always a madman, but few could have predicted he would take his own life just to oust his rival.
In order to complete his false story about Sherlock’s manufactured career, Moriarty threatens to kill three of his closest friends unless he commits suicide. Nevertheless, Sherlock realises that whilst Moriarty is alive, there’s still a possibility he can force his nemesis – by any means necessary – to call off the killers.
In order to guarantee his plan will work, therefore, Moriarty draws a gun from his pocket, sticks it is his mouth, and fires a bullet threw the back of his head.
The look of utter madness and determination on Moriarty’s face as he reaches for the gun and takes his own life is a brilliant piece of acting from Scott, and as such, Moriarty’s last act makes for an unforgettable moment in the show.
Such a twist also puts our hero in great jeopardy, for Sherlock now has no choice but to jump. Of course, in reality he had prepared in advance for such an eventuality, but when watching this scene for the first time, Moriarty’s suicide was a death sentence for our hero.
