Sherlock Showdown: Benedict Cumberbatch Vs. Robert Downey Jr.

3. The Most Badass Portrayal

The original idea was €˜most badass line€™ but I€™m shortening it to who is the more badass between the two of them. The answer will probably surprise you. We don€™t see Benedict get physically violent very often in the show. That doesn€™t mean that the character portrayal isn€™t badass. Isn€™t it awesome that he can look at lines of code and decode them in less than a minute? I would think so. The show relies very heavily on making Sherlock a wiz with his mind €“ the rest doesn€™t matter. One of the most badass scenes in BBC Sherlock is what we see on the rooftop with Moriarty. We see a man acknowledge what everyone has said about him, thus making us realise he knows what he€™s capable of. €œI may be on the side of the angels, but don€™t, for a minute, think I€™m one of them.€ This is easily the most badass line and scene in Sherlock thus far, because we saw Sherlock teeter on the line of good versus evil €“ all in an effort to save his friends. The movie however gave us a look at a physically-badass Sherlock. He resorted to physical violence in the movie in the form of recreational fighting. He also used this fighting as a way of fighting off guards and people in his way. While Benedict€™s Sherlock would most likely find a way out, Downey Jr.€™s would fight on sight, just to get past. This does give us a more carnal look to Sherlock, and one that should not be overlooked. This was something that was a part of the novels, in fact in the story The Sign of Four is where it is mentioned. Sir Conan Doyle also mentions facing his adversaries in hand-to-hand combat. So while brainy may be the new sexy... Most Badass Portrayal goes to: Sherlock Movies/Robert Downey Jr.

I'm currently attending my local college while trying to figure out who I am. I love Doctor Who, Sherlock, really any BBC show. I've also been told I'm a bit of a nerd. Specifically, a theatre nerd.
