The episode that brought every playground in the world to its knees. This smartly laid out story had everything - from humour to character development to a mystery. It also not only asked the titles question, but also if Mr. Burns would survive into season seven. Its easy to underestimate just how massive this episode was: after the revelation of Burns assailant, talk obviously died down surrounding the mystery and it became the butt of many a joke on the show. However, any show that is able to keep people talking for three months while it joins the teachers on summer holidays is definitely noteworthy. The episode was a landmark in television, spoofing an advertising campaign from the TV show Dallas ("Who Shot J.R.?"), and therefore deserves to be considered one of the show's most important moments thus far.
As a pretty nerdy guy, I've loved film and television since I was a wee lad. Growing up in Ireland, The Den was the show to watch with it playing Batman The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation and everything in between. I have an MA in Radio and Television Production and have written for various sites, hope you enjoy my articles/lists for What Culture!
