The Simpsons: 12 Celebrity Voiceovers You May Have Missed

1. Kirk Douglas

KirkdouglasPlayed: Chester J Lampwick Episode: The Day The Laughter Died After meeting a homeless man abusing the Itchy and Scratchy parade floats as they pass through Bumtown, Bart is intrigued by his claims that he is in fact the true creator of Itchy the mouse. After showing the first-ever Itchy animation to Bart and Milhouse at the elementary school - the only place in Springfield with a 90 year old projector - Bart is convinced, but the reel is then destroyed when it catches fire. Bart encourages Chester to meet with Roger Meyers Jr and explain the situation, but they're thrown out of his office. Bart then enlists the help of Lionel Hutz (and Homer's credit card) to buy a drawing of Itchy that he'd seen earlier in the episode. The drawing has a date under the frame, proving Chester created Itchy and bankrupting the studio. After realising there are no more Itchy and Scratchy, Bart begs Chester to allow them to keep making the cartoon but Chester explains that as long he has his health, and his millions of dollars and his gold house and his rocket car, he is happy and doesn't need any more money. Bart and Lisa then try to save Itchy and Scratchy using obscure legal precedents. They find one, and race to the studio only to find that Lester and Eliza, a couple of kids that look eerily like them, have beaten them to it - a surreal ending to the show. Douglas is a great choice for the role of the grumpy Lampwick, combining a strong vocal performance with his surly demeanour we have seen so often in his movies.
