Sons Of Anarchy: 12 Characters Everyone's Glad Survived

7. Venus Van Dam

Introduced in season five as a seemingly one-off character, Walton Goggins' out-of-this-world portrayal of the assertive, confident transgender prostitute made the character an immediate fan favourite destined to return. In season six, Venus' backstory was fleshed out, turning the character into one of the series' most sympathetic. During the final season, her relationship with Tig was taken to the next level, with Venus finally addressing the elephant in the room that, in the club's world, who she is would always put her and Tig in danger from those who would act upon their inherent homophobia and transphobia, bringing a very real-life truth about the outlaw life into the foreground and forcing both characters to come to terms with where they were at and what they would do going forward. With Goggins and Kim Coates delivering phenomenal work together in the scene where they dissect and put their relationship back together, Venus was given one last great time to shine and further turn a character that could've easily been nothing more than a punchline into a complex, beloved piece of Sons of Anarchy.
