11. Parallel Imagery

If you're going to get do a successful parody, one thing that must be spot on is the visual motifs used. There is no doubt that they thought about this in creating this trilogy as there are numerous times where there is striking parallel imagery. The most notable examples of this are the endings of the first two episodes which perfectly line up with the endings of the first two series of Game of Thrones. The first episode ends with Kenny as Daenery and Lemmiwinks as his dragon, the second with a fanatic mall shopper mirroring the White Walker from the end of season two. These two alone would have been great but the addition of other minor incidences like Stan in his 'cell' and Cartman walking people through the 'Garden of Andros' really cemented the parallels. While they consistently rip on Game of Thrones for being all about nudity and never getting anywhere it's clear that South Park's writers are fans of the show. These visual links are one of the reasons this parody was such a conclusive success.
