South Park: Ranking Every Season From Worst To Best
10. Season 15 (2011)
Season 15 enters the list this high mostly because of the stunning developments around its midway point. You're Getting Old was the best episode of South Park in four years, and it succeeded because it flipped the show's script: rather than viewing sincerity with cynicism, it viewed cynicism with sincerity.
You're Getting Old very obviously emerged from Parker and Stone's own feelings of self-doubt about the show's future; with The Book of Mormon flying high on Broadway and critics claiming South Park had been flagging for years, why even continue? The resulting episode felt almost like a surprise series finale and elicited major feels. To date, there hasn't been a more emotional moment of the show than the montage of Stan's cynicism and Randy moving out set to Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide."
It proved that Parker and Stone could still produce fantastic storylines, while the seven episodes that followed showed that they still had the humorous touch of their earlier years to go with their narrative abilities. South Park came roaring back, first resetting the series' status quo with Ass Burgers and then following it with a string of really solid episodes: Broadway Bro Down, The Last of the Meheecans, and 1% would each have been the single best episode of Seasons 12, 13, or 14.
Of course, the reason they needed to roar back at all is that the first three episodes of the season were terrible. But for the sheer audacity of You're Getting Old and the return to form that followed, Season 15 lands in the middle of the pack.
Best Episode: You're Getting Old
