Star Trek: 10 Best Romulan Episodes
3. Unification
Just a few weeks before the release of the spectacular Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Spock appeared in Star Trek The Next Generation for the two-part Unification. Captain Picard learns that Ambassador Spock may well have defected to the Romulan Star Empire, which would be a cruel blow to the Federation. Picard seeks out Sarek, Spock's father, who is dying as his emotions overwhelm him.
Picard learns that Spock is talking with a group of Romulans who agree with him, that the Vulcan and Romulan people should acknowledge their shared heritage and and re-unite. The Romulan leadership and in particular the villainous Commander Sela will do their best to subvert this plan. They use the opportunity to launch a concealed conquest of Vulcan itself.
Sela's plan is undone by Spock, Picard and Data on Romulus. Meanwhile the Enterprise, under Riker's leadership, heads off a group of disguised ships at Galorndon Core. When the ruse is revealed, a Romulan Warbird destroys the disguised ships rather than let them be captured. The Romulans are shown as willing to kill their own troops to save face.
While Vulcans and Romulans would continue to be at odds on this day, in the centuries to come, we learn that they eventually embrace one another as siblings. In the renaming of Vulcan to Ni'Var, they are seen living together in relative peace. Spock's mission, ultimately, would be a success.
