8. Size Queen

Despite rationalizing that the new take on the USS Enterprise was simply a more primitive configuration of the same ship from Star Trek: The Original Series, the design team was nevertheless tasked with reconsidering the ship's size. As the USS Discovery had been established to be a whopping 2.5 times the size of the TOS Enterprise, the new version would have to scaled up lest it look embarrassingly small flying alongside the Discovery.

According to John Eaves:

The scale would go up and down. Were we going to keep the scale of The Original Series or was it going to be increased to match the size of the Discovery ships? Scott [Schneider] would have to readjust those window sizes constantly. Art one point William [Budge] did a whole scale sheet showing what it would like at a thousand feet up to fifteen hundred.

As of yet, no official technical data has been stated on screen (and is therefore not canon), but a bridge monitor in the episode "Brother" did display incorrect schematics of the Enterprise (using incomplete concept artwork) and incorrect dimensions taken from Franz Joseph's 1975 Star Fleet Technical Manual. Despite this data appearing on screen, production designer Tamara Deverall has stated that it was included as a visual easter egg and not considered the definitive specs on the new Enterprise – which, according to CBS officially clocks in at 442.06 meters or 1450 feet long, considerably larger than her 288.6 meters (946 feet)-long TOS counterpart.
