Upon Star Trek: Picard's release and the big reveal of the La Sirena, many fans rightly pointed out (see numerous Reddit threads on the subject) that the nimble little vessel had a distinctive, yet familiar livery. While creator Michael Chabon acknowledged this bit of inspiration in an Instagram post, the production designers have yet to outright admit that the La Sirena appears to be a not-so-subtle nod to Van Halen's Frankenstrat guitar.

Both the guitar and the La Sirena feature a bold red base color accented by white and black striping. While not admitting that the two are clearly related, designer Mark Yang said:

For some reason red just jump out at Todd [Cherianwsky] so we gave it a very striking red paint job.

During the design phase of the La Sirena, the art department experimented with numerous paint schemes before settling on the rock-n-roll red, white, and black of the ship's final on screen appearance. Concept art depicts the ship evolving from silver, to blue, to yellow, and finally the Van Halen-esque pattern.

Even while the show was airing, the La Sirena's look was subtlety tweaked, receiving an amended paint job for the final three episodes of season one, but still retaining Frankie's distinctive style.

Go ahead and jump.
