Star Trek: 10 Secrets Of The USS Stargazer
8. What Does A Starship Need With Carpet?
Interiors of the Stargazer were designed by Dave Blass and Sean Hargreaves, who previously designed the USS Enterprise-A for Star Trek Beyond.
Constructed at Santa Clarita Studios in Santa Clarita, California, the Stargazer's sets included a corridor complex, observation lounge, and, of course, a main bridge. According to Blass, the bridge of the Stargazer was built 10-feet wider than the bridge of the Enterprise-E to take advantage of Star Trek: Picard's widescreen format.
Designed to evoke Herman Zimmerman's interior sets from Star Trek: The Next Generation and its feature films, the Stargazer's interiors notably lacked one 90s-era Trek slash 24th century design staples: Abundant carpeting.
According to Sean Hargreaves:
There’s been discussion on some of the online threads about whether there should have been carpet. I disagree wholeheartedly. This isn’t a cruise ship, nor a living room! When it gets down to carpet, no carpet, how shiny the floors are, etc., it’s missing the point.
