We have to wonder; how many cast members were terrified when they were told there was going to be a musical episode?

Pike and co. had barely recovered their memories from their last brain-befuddling caper before they were soft-shoe-shuffling down corridors and bursting into song. When the Enterprise encounters a subspace fold...actually, it really doesn't matter. All you need to know is that Subspace Rhapsody is a musical. Because songs are fun.

Una and Kirk rattle off a whimsical waltz, La'An belts her earnest little heart out, Pike divulges far too much about his love life in a duet on the bridge, Chapel unleashes her inner dancing diva, and Spock becomes the Prince of Emos. In fact, there's a surprising number of ballads in this relatively short musical interlude, no doubt because of the amount of angst that accumulated throughout the season. What we want to know is where was Ortegas' song about flying without wings? What a wasted opportunity...

Although let's be honest, it was another crew entirely that stole the show. When a nearby Klingon vessel is hailed, they launch into what can only be described as a K-Pop banger. And frankly, they can slay us any day. We're with Sam Kirk on this one...lowkey vibing in the background.
