There is quite a bit of tragedy in the tale of the Triannon. They are a race divided by religious civil war, consumed by hatred, and masking all of this with their faith. Their leader, D'Jamat does manage to over the crew of Enterprise in the episode Chosen Realm, thus revealing the extent of their dogmatic obsession.

They use organic explosives implanted in their bodies to hold the crew hostage, detonating a single one - and a person - to prove their dedication. It takes the combined efforts of Archer, Phlox, Reed, the MACOs, and several disaffected members of D'Jamat's crew to retake the ship.

With their obsession with the Sphere Builders, D'Jamat considered any scientific scans of the Spheres to be heresy - and deletes all of the accumulated data that Enterprise had put together. It is a heartbreaking moment watching Archer as he sees whats about to happen, and helps the audience understand his cold reaction when the Triannon go home - to find a devastated wasteland.
