Star Trek: 10 Worst Things Captain Janeway Has Ever Done

4. Hunting The Equinox (Equinox)

Star Trek Voyager Equinox
CBS

This was summarised perfectly as the only time that Voyager's dedication plaque came down off the wall. In this two-parter, Janeway's rage and feelings of betrayal lead her into one of, if not the, most merciless hunts in the history of the ship.

The USS Equinox is saved by Voyager, having arrived in the Delta Quadrant through almost identical circumstances. However, their journey through the Quadrant has been met with far more strife. An early encounter with the Krotonan Gaurd cost the ship half of its crew, and it only got worse from there. When they discovered that they could harvest the bodies of nucleogenic lifeforms as fuel, they seized the opportunity. Captain Janeway was not pleased.

She hunted the ship into submission, with only four members of the crew surviving the chase. While the aliens themselves were responsible for most of the deaths, Janeway's pursuit of the ship cost it a nacelle, effectively ending any chance for it to continue on its journey. Only when Captain Ransom elects to sacrifice himself to safeguard the survivors, does Janeway call off the chase and allow the remaining crew to stay on Voyager.
