Star Trek: 12 Biggest Losses Starfleet Ever Faced

The future isn't always a bright and shining place as evidenced by these ten disasters.

Starfleet has had its share of bloody noses along the way. From its early days before the foundation of the Federation to the later days of Jean-Luc Picard's life, there have always been demons out in the wilderness, with Star Trek depicting some of the worst confrontations along the way.

For a long time, it was thought that the devastation at Wolf 359 would be the worst that Starfleet would have to face, but unfortunately this would be relegated somewhat down the list, as there were many enemies out there - all desperate to take a bite of the mighty alliance.

The entries on this list depict losses in both manpower and morale - so grab some chocolate, hug your partner and let's begin.

12. Destruction Of The USS Odyssey

Star Trek Deep Space Nine What We Left Behind

While the Odyssey may only be a single ship, this attack by the Jem'hadar was the first depicition of just how destructive this new enemy was going to be. Star Trek The Next Generation centered around the Enterprise-D, a beautiful Galaxy class ship, the same class as Odyssey.

The logic here echoed the logic of depicting the broken hull of a Constitution class ship in the aftermath of the Battle of Wolf 359. Both of these depictions served to let the new audience know that, had Kirk been at Wolf 359 or Picard in the Gamma Quadrant, their experience and skill would have come to naught against this new foe.
