Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Ranking Every Major Character Worst To Best

3. Captain Sisko

So, one might wonder why Captain Benjamin Sisko is third on this list. His photo looks like he's not overly happy with this decision. But all will be made clear.

The show opens with Sisko's experiences in the Battle of Wolf 359, the loss of his wife and the beginning of his new life on Deep Space Nine. He raises Jake alone, shouldering the responsibilities of command with the responsibilities of being a father. While his position on Deep Space Nine becomes more stable, the quadrant around him becomes less so.

However, Sisko quickly establishes himself as a powerful leader in a crisis. He weathers the battles with the Jem'hadar, the Klingons and the Cardassians, while keeping his crew safe. He retakes the station thanks, in large part, to his relationship with the Prophets.

Sisko (it is later revealed) is part-eternal being, with his birth arranged by the Prophet Sarah Sisko. His destiny had always been somewhat set in stone, though how much free will he had along the way remains up for debate. One thing that is definite about Sisko is his ability to see the ends justifying the means.

He hatches a plan to con the Romulans into joining the war effort against the Dominion, engaging in plots that Picard would never have even considered. They are successful, though they may have cost the man a part of his soul.

Sisko may be the strongest captain in the fleet, currently at one with the Prophets, leaving a waiting wife and two children behind.
